Misinformation, Disinformation, and Gun Violence in Canada

This article illustrates a report of disinformation from the Canadian government. It explains how the Canadian government is attempting to censor a facebook page for “armed farmers” (being the persecuted victims) who spread disinformation about local politics in order to scare people. Content on this page usually consisted of anything from vaccine hesitancy to undermining the authority of systems of power in Canada. These armed farmers in Canada could be compared to similar groups across Europe, in places like France and The Netherlands, which have similar laws. The Canadian government responded to this threat by shadow banning the page, which in layman’s terms means that the page was not being recommended to anybody through facebook. Thus crippling its spread.
